SportsBuds

Over the course of three months, I participated in an intensive course on UX/UI design where I gained hands-on experience in designing user interfaces and user experiences for web and mobile applications.

For my individual project SportBuds, I decided to create an app where people could easily find others to play sports with. The goal was to make it simple for users to create and join groups based on their location.

This course allowed me to experience the process of creating an app from start to finish. Which involves multiple stages, including ideation, market research, user research, wireframing, prototyping, design, development, testing, and deployment.

01. The problem

As time goes on and the demands of daily life increase, many young adults stop participating in sports. Even those who are eager to continue can be discouraged by the lack of partners to play with. This can make it difficult to stay active and engaged in sports, despite the many benefits that they provide.

02. The proposal

The proposal is to design an app that provides a quick and easy way for people to connect, without requiring them to commit to being part of a fixed team. This app should be user-friendly, intuitive, and provide a seamless experience for users who want to find others to play sports with.

03. Meet the users

To begin our design process, we created proto-personas to help us envision who our target users might be. Through qualitative interviews, we were able to validate our initial assumptions and solidify our understanding of our user's needs and behaviours.

  • MOTIVATIONS

Find time for herself, get back into fitness, and have fun.

    PAIN POINTS

Leaving the baby alone, not having a team anymore, and organising to have some free time.

A year ago I became a mother, and now I feel I am ready to play football again but my team disbanded.
  • MOTIVATIONS

Meeting new people, and playing tennis again, also put an end to his sedentary lifestyle.

    PAIN POINTS

Not knowing where to start (new to the city), fighting laziness, doesn't know anyone that plays tennis.

I recently moved to a new city, and I used to play tennis when I was younger. I would like to get back into the sport and make some new friends.

04. Wireframing process from low to high

Wireframing the sports app was an iterative process that involved several stages. It began with sketching on paper, which allowed us to explore different design concepts quickly and easily. We then moved on to creating wireframes in Figma, a digital design tool that enabled us to refine and iterate our ideas. Throughout the process, we conducted user testing to gather feedback and ensure that the wireframes were intuitive and user-friendly.

The final wireframes reflect a streamlined user flow, with just a few simple steps required to find a match: selecting a sport, choosing a date and time, and then selecting a convenient match and team to play with.

05. MPV

The Sportbuds MVP aims to simplify the process of finding a team to play sports with. By selecting the preferred sport, date, and time, users can quickly find and join matches that suit their needs.

01. Choose the sport
02. Pick the time
03. Pick a match
04. Join!

While I have shared a brief overview of the project, there is much more data and information that I could provide. However, I didn't want to make this presentation too long. If you are interested in learning more you can check the full version or the UX/UI report - both in Spanish - I think it could be useful for more insights.
